Bear Sports Network Game of the Week: Week 5 Powered by Kroll Construction

We are back local for our games this week after heading to Toledo last week. In our Downriver special last week, we saw Dearborn Fordson beat Livonia Stevenson 16-0, and in our game of the week, we saw Toledo Central Catholic beat De La Salle in a battle of defending D2 State Champions 28-23 as the State of Ohio took this matchup.

Lincoln Park vs Coldwater-Downriver Special

This week’s Downriver Special takes us to our first homecoming game as the Lincoln Park Railsplitters host the Coldwater Cardinals. This will be the first matchup for the two teams, with both entering this one winless. Will it be a great bus ride home for Coldwater, or will Lincoln Park kick off Homecoming weekend on the right foot?

The Railsplitters enter this one with a 0-4 record, which is partly due to the 21 turnovers in the first four games. Sophomore Quarterback Jacob Boykins has passed for 451 yards and four touchdowns in the team’s first games, but that also comes with five interceptions. One target he goes to regularly is Junior Receiver Javion Cornett-Tillman, who has 200 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions. The Railsplitters have looked to Jamir King and Logan Ferrell to bring the heat on defense. King has racked up three sacks and 32 tackles, whereas Ferrell has 34 tackles and a sack, along with a fumble recovery. If the Railsplitters can limit the turnovers, they will be just fine in this one.

The Coldwater Cardinals are traveling just under two hours to play in this one. With a matching 0-4 record, they are looking to go home happy and ruin homecoming for the Railspilters. Leading the charge under center is Quarterback will be Senior Zach Coffing. Coffing has thrown for 206 yards and two touchdowns in three games under center. Coffing can also do it with his legs, as he has 109 yards and a touchdown running the ball. On the receiving end, they will look to get the ball to Evan Porter. Porter has eight receptions for 133 yards and three touchdowns.

Flat Rock vs Riverview-Game of the Week

A classic Huron League matchup. First meeting in 1965, these two have faced off against each other 47 times, with Riverview holding a 41-6 lead over Flat Rock. Flat Rock’s last win over Riverview came in 2017.

The Flat Rock Rams enter this one undefeated, and that is thanks to Junior Quarterback Graham Junge. Junge has 936 yards and 12 touchdowns on 69 for 100 passing. He has also rushed 16 times for 143 yards. Helping him out in the rushing game has been Brian Booms. Booms has rushed for 487 yards and seven touchdowns on 70 carries while pulling in a touchdown on seven receptions for  85 yards. As for Junge’s favorite target, it is Senior Tight End, Rocco Breslin. Breslin has 14 receptions for 190 yards and five touchdowns.

The Riverview Pirates have been the crown jewel in the Huron League, not having a losing season since 2016. What has helped Riverview dominate for so long is their Wing-T offense. Leading the Wing-T under center for the Pirates will be Junior Quarterback Lucas Thompson. Running Backs Ian Adams, Nathan Pinkava, and Jorden Smiechowski will be lined up in the backfield with Thompson. Leading the way in the backfield is Adams, who, in three games, has 625 yards and ten touchdowns on the year. Pinkava is just behind Adams, as he is totaling seven touchdowns and 422 yards on the season.
