Record Breaking Night in Belleville

History was made on Friday, the 13th  of September, 2024. The Belleville Tigers hosted the Chargers of Livonia Churchill, and while the Tigers won 65-0, that wasn’t the story of the night.

The story was about the record-breaking performances of Senior Quarterback Bryce Underwood and Senior Kicker Brayden Lane. Lane entered the game tied for the lead in All-Time career extra points at 220 with Brett Mueller of Ubly, who held the record for less than a year. Underwood entered the game needing five touchdowns to tie the All-Time career touchdown record and one away from tying the All-Time career passing touchdown record.

Lane would make his history early in the game as the Tigers would score off a passing touchdown for Underwood. Lane did say he was nervous knowing how close he was, but at the same time, he was very excited since it had been a long time coming.

On breaking the record, Lane would say, “It means a lot knowing I was able to break the all-time PAT record,” He would go on to say that it was special to do it at home because he was able to do it in front of all his family and friends.

For Underwood, his first record-setting moment of the night would come in the second quarter with 8:12 to go before the half on a 69-yard passing touchdown that was the all-time passing touchdown record set in 2016. Underwood would then go on to break the total career touchdowns, a record set 20 years ago, as he finished the night with six touchdowns. The next record on deck for Underwood is the state career passing yards, which he should break before the end of the season.

On the big record-setting night, Lane said breaking the record with Underwood was special. Lane would add, “We’ve been together all four years on varsity. He’s like my brother, and I’m very happy for him.”
