Week 4 Games of the Week Previews & Picks

We are fully in the middle of the high school football season now, and as we head to week four, teams are starting to separate themselves. Here are the games we feel will be the best bang for your buck this week.

Detroit Country Day at Divine Child

Both teams come into this one sitting at 2-1 as Country Day had a big win over Detroit Loyola last week, while Divine Child took care of business on the road against Milford.

Divine Child has been road dogs this season, as this will be their first home game. In the win last week, Freshman Quarterback Drew Sheridan passed for 262 yards while completing 18 of his 22 passes. On the defensive side of the ball, Senior Blake Englert and Junior Antonio Solares-Vitti had an interception in the win. However, the night’s story was the play of star Junior Marcello Vitti. In the win last week, Vitti ran for 73 yards and four touchdowns, and he will look to add to his team-high seven touchdowns this week against Country Day.

The story for Country Day has been their dynamic Running back Duo of Chase Dawkins and Derrick Williams. The two Running Backs have been the main catalysts for this team. While it’s a two-headed attack for Country Day, Dawkins has been an absolute beast. He has 423 yards and six touchdowns on 53 carries this season. Dawkins also has one touchdown on a kickoff return from week one.

Toledo Central Catholic at De La Salle

A game that was a top-five game we saw last year, Toledo Central Catholic will travel to Detroit this year to face off against De La Salle.

For Central Catholic they come into this one sitting at 3-1 on the season with their only loss coming to Detroit Catholic Central. They started with a strong ground game that Senior Tyler Morgan and Junior Anthony Sylvester led. While Central Catholic has used two Quarterbacks under center, it looks like Sophomore Ali Beydoun will start for a second straight week. In last week’s win, Sylvester finished with a team-high 81 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Sylvester and Morgan will look to add to their team highs in touchdowns, seven for Sylvester, and yards for Morgan, who currently sits at 442 on the season.

De La Salle enters this one sitting at 3-0. In their win last week, Quarterback Santi Gasperoni’s play helped the team to their third win. Gasperoni had a hand in three of the team’s five touchdowns. The defense of De La Salle has been their calling card all season, and if they want to flip the script from last year’s game, the defense will need to keep playing the way they have in the three wins up to this point.

Detroit MLK at Detroit Cass Tech- Game of the Week

Our Game of the Week takes us to Detroit’s best rivalry game as the Technicians of Cass Tech host the Crusaders of Martin Luther King High School. Both teams come into this one sitting at 2-1 and will look to get the edge on their rival.

The Technicians of Cass Tech have a good core of players that are leading the way and none are more impressive than Junior Corey Sadler Jr. Sadler has done a little bit of everything for Cass Tech over the years as he has lined up out wide as a receiver: he has also lined up in the backfield as both a Running Back and as the Quarterback. However, Freshman Donald Tabron is taking snaps at Quarterback for Cass Tech this year. Running the ball for Cass Tech is De’Mari Hendrix. Hendrix is a Sophomore who we dubbed the “Muscle Hamster” last year. If all three of them can keep up the phenomenal play from this year, they should have no trouble holding down home-field.

The Crusaders of Detroit, Martin Luther King, have had slow starts in their two biggest games for the year to this point, and they are 1-1 in those games. For the Crusaders they have players like Darryl Flemister, Damon Stennis, Michael Dukes, and Xavier Newsom. While Stennis, Dukes, and Newsome will suit up for the Crusaders, Flemister’s availability is up in the air following his injury against De La Salle in week two.

Should the Crusaders have their full lineup available, this game could be one of the best of the year.
