The final football game of the year featured a classic east side vs west side of the state match-up as it saw Detroit Cass Tech take on Hudsonville. Who would take the title of Division One State Champion? It would end up being Cass Tech winning their first title since 2016.
Hudsonville
Better Late Than Never
The Hudsonville Eagles took a while to get off the ground in the state-final game. In a game that was controlled by Detroit Cass Tech, it wasn’t until the second half that Hudsonville finally showed signs of life. While they tried trick plays and some worked, they didn’t score until there was 7:44 left in the third quarter, and that was a nice run by quarterback Griffin Baker. They would get an onside kick and couldn’t do anything with it before giving it back to Cass Tech. Hudsonville would get two more scores, but that wouldn’t be enough.
Cass Tech
Young Core
If you think you can go another eight years without hearing from Cass Tech in the state finals, I would like you to think again. Some of the biggest stars for Cass Tech are underclassmen. Players like Corey Sadler, Donald Tabron, and De’Mari Hendrix are all underclassmen for a team that looks to be really good and really talented over the next few years.
Firing on all cylinders
Cass Tech got going from the Jump, whether it was on defense, where they had two interceptions, a sack, and 60 tackles, or on offense, where they had Freshman quarterback Donald Tabron throw for three touchdowns, one of which was a phenomenal jump ball thrown where only his guy could get it, or even one of the three touchdown runs from players like Alex Graham, Jaylen Spates, or De’Mari Hendrix, they fired on all cylinders.
