In a showdown of two of the top teams in the Downriver League, the Lincoln Park Railsplitters hosted the Carlson Marauders in a good old-fashioned showdown. It would be the Railsplitters that would edge out the Marauders 70-62.
Carlson
Dueling Guards
The Carlson Marauders have been known for their phenomenal guard play the last few years, and that is no different this year. Their starting Guards, Matt MacBride and Brody Lavis were great in the backcourt for the Marauders. The two players were able to dish it out, score, and even find their way to the basket to pull in a few rebounds each. In the case of MacBride, he has been the focal point of the Marauders the last few years, and that is no different this year as he played the majority of the game and didn’t come out down the stretch when they were making a run to try and win the game late.
Lincoln Park
Interior Force
The Lincoln Park Railsplitters are a force to be reckoned with inside the paint. If you want to attack the paint, you will need to deal with the big body of Sean Bailey, who showed why he’s so good down low as he pulled in 12 rebounds. Their front court is also deadly on the offensive side of the court, and it showed in the game against Carlson as Bailey was able to put in a 16-point performance with 10 of them coming in the paint. Also down low causing a ruckus was Tyler Gibbs. Gibbs turned his offense into defense and back into offense a few times in the game as he scored, which caused a turnover and scored again. He was able to provide a spark early in the game that jump-started the offense for his squad.
Z’s World
It was a big night for Lincoln Park’s Zahir Haqq, who scored a game-high 28 points and was all over the court on offense and defense. Haqq played tough and went all out in the game, pulling in eight rebounds and dishing out an assist. He also got four steals in the game, which helped his team get the win.
