They say defense wins championships, but it will also help you win games. That is the route that River Rouge took in their matchup against Notre Dame Prep. While it was a defensive battle between both teams, it was River Rouge that ended up on to by a final of 61-54
River Rouge
Batman and Robin
River Rouge has a dynamic duo, and that is Memphis McDowell and CJ Hearns Jr. While Hearns impressed us the last time we saw River Rouge, McDowell stepped up more so here, and they took turns on who would have the hot hand and when. It was a little rocky to start the game, and that is when McDowell took the offense’s reins. After halftime, it was the Hearns show yet again as he exploded for seven in the third, which led the team. After the third, Hearns turned it back over to McDowell as he would score eight points in the quarter, all of which came from the line. Hearns would lead Rouge in scoring with 17, and McDowell would finish with 15. On a night when the team looked a tad off shooting, their two stars would come up big.
Passing Success
The Panthers of River Rouge play the game team style, even though they rely on their stars. The team passes the ball around and looks for the best shot or even passes down the court for an easy layup. They are a well-rounded team that plays to its strengths.
Notre Dame Prep
Coming Around
It’s been a slow start to the season for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame Prep. It would be for any team that was missing seven of the squad’s twelve players as they were winning the state championship in football, and so far early in the season, you can see that as they are 3-4 to start their season. There were bright spots in the game as they looked like they had their identity as a “Three and D” team, and then they had low lights as they looked like they were having trouble controlling the ball and were also making bad passes, which led to turnovers. However, fixing the bad passes and being able to control the ball will come, and they will be able to get on the right foot.
