Hoops Takeaways: Summit Academy uses a 17-0 Run to Put Down Old Redford

In a game that was a huge tilt in the Gold Division of the Charter School Conference, the Summit Academy Dragons welcomed the Division’s three runners-up from a year ago, the Ravens of Old Redford. While the game was billed as a tight one, Summit went on a 17-0 run early in the game to put it out of reach, taking it 59-33.

Too Much Altitude

After making it to the State Finals a year ago Old Redford thought they could go toe-to-toe with the best team in the conference in Summit Academy, but that quickly went out the window. While it was close for the first two or three minutes, the game quickly got out of hand for the Ravens as they looked to attack the Dragon that protects the Peak. No one for the Ravens scored in the double digits, and it hurt a team with high aspirations this year. While it was an off night for the Ravens, they will need to regroup, as they should see the Dragons again right before the playoffs.

Protecting the Peak

The Dragons have been the best team in their league for some time, and that didn’t change as they went up against a team that finished as state runners-up last year with a team that returned six of the seven players that got plenty of run in that state finals a year ago. Summit wasn’t just a one-trick pony like they had been; it was a three-headed dragon as they finished with three players with double-digit points. Amir Perryman, Chance Houser, and Andrew Ashwood were the three to finish with double digits, but instead of looking like it was just one guy taking over, it was more of a balanced attack for them. Even though three players scored in the double digits, it felt like more players did that, with players like Marquan White and Jordan Fuller also having outstanding nights. If the Dragons can keep this up, this might be the team that reaches the top of the mountain and holds the wooden mitten.
