Hoops Takeaways: Warren Lincoln Comes Alive in the Second Half to Take Down the Number 1 team in the State U of D Jesuit

In a game pitting two of the top ten teams in the state of Michigan against each other, we got a game worthy of the hype. The Abes of Warren Lincoln welcomed the state’s number one team, the Cubs of U of D Jesuit. While the Cubs led the way for the whole first half, it was the Abes that came storming back to get the win 66-65.

Team Ball

The Cubs of U of D Jesuit played a great game of team ball. Each player passed the ball with precision and looked for the open man. They also looked the part on defense, knowing where each other was going to be on the court, and that helped them out late in the game as they made their charge to get back in the game.

Scorers go Quiet

The top two scorers for U of D Jesuit went quiet in the third, combining for a total of nine points, and that is when Warren Lincoln was able to make their charge. While Xavier Johnson and Leroy Blyden would pick it back up after the third, it wasn’t enough to get the win. If they had kept the scoring, we might have been talking about a Cubs win instead of a Cubs loss.

Blackwell’s Missing

For a good majority of the game, Moses and Markus Blackwell were missing in action. For Moses, it was because he was in early foul trouble as he picked up three fouls in the opening period, and that caused issues for his team, with their main ball handler missing for the majority of the first half. When it comes to Markus, while he was out there, he only had five points in the first half, and that is unlike him, as he is one of the most prolific scorers in the state. While both played better in the second half, it still wasn’t up to their standards.

Unlikely Stars

With both of the Blackwell brothers not having their A-game, the Abes of Warren Lincoln had to turn to other players to help lead them to victory. The players they turned to were Da’Marion Bozeman and Christopher Morgan. For Morgan, he was the driving force in the first half and into the third quarter. He finished the game scoring 15 points. He was a big factor in the game, and while he finished with only two rebounds and one assist, Morgan made his mark on the game. For Bozeman, he came alive late in the game as he finished with 17 points, and he actually had a double-double as he also pulled in 12 rebounds. Both of these players were the reason that they beat the top team in the state.
