Hoops Takeaways: Ann Arbor Huron Uses their Veteran Experience to Win a Third Stright Regional Title

With only 16 teams left in the Division 1 Basketball Playoffs, Ann Arbor Huron and Detroit Catholic Central would meet at Belleville High School for the right to advance to be one of the final eight teams in Division 1. While we would have a tight game early, Ann Arbor Huron would pull away in the third quarter to help them claim their third straight regional title as they would win 69-59.

Learning on the Job

With only four seniors on the team and only two that see much playing time, this Catholic Central Shamrocks team was really young and was learning on the job after a rocky regular season. With only two starters being seniors for the Shamrocks, they return a lot of firepower for next year that made it further than anyone expected. The two players who gained the most this season were Wycell Davis and Malachi Clayton. Together, they will combine to become one of the most dynamic backcourts, and the best news for the Shamrocks is they were both sophomores. Add to them the return of Gideon Gash, Jackson Bowden, and Andrew Walker. They will be a dangerous team, especially when you add in the fact that only Bowden will be a senior next season. This was a year for learning for the Shamrocks.

Been There and Done That

When it looked scary late in the game for Ann Arbor Huron, the experience of the team came out, and they were able to hold off the late push from Catholic Central. The team led by Macari Moore, Dominic Krzesowiak, and Jaydon Keefer have all been around high-level basketball during their time in high school. Those three, along with Nate Sidney, Kaiden Morning, and Kaleb Brown, will make for a tough team to beat if they can keep their heads down and not let up when they have a big lead like they did in the game against Catholic Central.
