After eight weeks away from the field Belleville welcomed Cass Tech in for a Regional matchup. Belleville did get the win 43-16 over Cass Tech. With eight weeks off Belleville quarterback Christan Dhue-Reid said It felt good to get back out there. Dhue-Reid said “They kept canceling our season, but it felt good getting back out there with my guys.” Dhue-Reid finished the game going 16/19 for 238 yards and three touchdowns in the air, and added another 17yards on three rushes.
Even though most of the team came back they were missing star Wide Receiver Deion Burks who enrolled early at Purdue. However, what helped do Cass Tech in was missing Kalen and Kobe King both of whom enrolled early at Penn State. Cass Tech Wide Receiver Jameel Gardener said he, and the team didn’t view losing the King brothers as added pressure. It was a next man up situation according to Gardener. He went on to say “They are only two guys, and great players, but I feel like we should have come up with the win.
Belleville moves on to the state quarterfinals and will host West Bloomfield next week.
Our player of the game goes to Belleville Quarterback Christan Dhue-Reid who went 16/19 for 238 yards and three touchdowns and 17 rushing yards. However, Cass Tech Wide Receiver Jameel Gardener made a strong push finishing with 106 yards and a touchdown on four catches. His lone touchdown did come on a 74 yard catch in the second quarter.
