In a rematch of the last three regional finals Belleville met West Bloomfield in the state semifinals for a chance to go play for the state championship at Ford Field in Detroit.
Both teams came into the matchup with high powered offenses, but it was the defenses of both teams that was the story early on. After the first quarter of play from Belleville High School the score was tied at zero which no one expected to see happen. In the second quarter of action though Player of the Game, and Michigan commit Donovan Edwards broke off a 54 yard touchdown run to put West Bloomfield up 7-0 with 8:20 left before halftime. Dillon Tatum said following the game that he and Edwards work as a tandem, and when one is down the other steps it up. That wasn’t an issue today as Edwards rushed for 106 yards and 3 touchdowns on 12 carries, while Tatum rushed for 33 yards on 5 carries. Tatum also added an interception in the game.
Tatum said that he, and the rest of the team are excited to go back to Ford Field and win the school their first championship as they play Davison next Saturday at 1 pm.
