Woodhaven comes out hot over Taylor

Following a storm that knocked out the power at Taylor High School, last minute plans were put in place to have the Woodhaven Warriors host the Taylor Griffins.  The two teams last met in the playoffs last season as the Warriors beat the Griffins 49-7, and Friday night had a similar result as the Warriors would go on to beat the Griffins 40-0.

This game was over as quick as it started with the Warriors scoring on the first drive of the night as running back David Henry found a seam and ran it in from 20 yards out. The Griffins first drive didn’t fare as well as quarterback Stephen Fletcher threw an interception which set the Warriors up for a 33 yard touchdown pass from their quarterback Ashton Mohlman.

The ensuing Griffins drive showed some promise, but eventually stalled just past midfield. On the following Woodhaven drive we would see a 39 yard Touchdown pass from Mohlman to Syracuse commit Cornell Perry to give the Warriors a 20-0 lead heading to halftime.

Following the half the Warrior starters would go on to score twice more, both on the ground one from Mohlman and the other from Henry, before handing it over to the bench.

Following the game in something that hasn’t happened in over a year “The Tribe” Woodhaven’s Student Section rushed the field and to that QB Ashton Mohlman said “the energy made the difference, being able to have them and our family’s who couldn’t come last year was great.” Wide Receiver/Safety Cornell Perry chimed in on the student section also saying how great it felt after playing a season without them and just how uplifting it was to have that energy.
