King Makes it back to States for the third time in four years.

Following a win over a tough Allen Park Jaguars team a week ago Detroit King was looking to punch a ticket to the State Finals with a win over Mason.

The fireworks started early for King as they won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. It only took King 2:45 for Quarterback Dante Moore to find Lynn Wyche-El for the 11-yard score. On his Receiver, Moore would say “That’s my dawg,” he would go on to say “He’s a senior sadly, I wish I could play with him forever.” Mason would then get a chance to tie it up as they would get it into the red zone but an interception would give the ball back to King. On that next drive, Moore would find Joseph Willams Jr. from 38 yards out for the King score to make it 14-0 with just over 3 minutes left in the first quarter.

Mason would get the ball back and their day would go from bad to worse. Mason would be backed up to their and they would have trouble with the snap on the punt, and it would bounce around in the endzone before Mason’s Punter would go and kick the ball out of bounds for a Safety would make it 16-0. That would be where we stood for the last 2:10 of the first with King driving.

It wouldn’t take much time for King to find the endzone in the second quarter as Moore would pass for his third touchdown of the half as he would find Chansey Willis Jr. for a 38-yard score to make it 23-0 with 11:53 left in the first half. Another Mason drive and another issue with the snap as this one would go over the punter’s head and sail out the back of the endzone for the second safety in as many drives for King. Following the safety on the ensuing kickoff, Sterling Anderson Jr. would return it 60 yards for a score to make it a 32-0 game with 8:58 left in the half. One more score for Anderson Jr., this time a 39-yard run, in the half would give King a 39-0 lead going into the half.

A running clock and starters benched for King to start the second half could have helped out Mason, but King’s bench is one of the deepest in the state. Defensive Back Tim Ruffin would show everyone what he has as he would intercept the pass and return it for a pick-6. The rest of the third quarter would go by in a flash and King would end it up 46-0. Mason would power their way down the field on the back of Sophomore Running Back AJ Martel and that would break the egg as the game would end 46-7 in favor of King.

Sugared Petal Cake Shoppe Player of the Game

We have Co-Players of the game for this one. First is Quarterback Dante Moore. Moore had a day in the first half as he went 7 for 8 passing for 190 yards and three touchdowns. The second guy is Lynn Wyche-El who had 3 catches on 3 targets for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Detroit King will stay close to home this Thanksgiving weekend as they prepare for a top two matchup in the state. They will meet defending D3 champs DeWitt in the State Finals. Even though Thanksgiving is this week there are no days off as Wyche-El said “We have to be focused,” and focus will be key as he went on to say “We have practice on Thanksgiving and that’s gonna feel good.”
