D1QB Lab Game of the Week: Dexter vs Saline

We are heading to the SEC for this loaded D1QB Lab Game of the Week as the undefeated Dexter Dreadnaughts led by 4-star Michigan commit Cole Cabana hosts the Saline Hornets (6-1) led by Notre Dame 5-star commit C.J. Carr.

This game has quickly become a rivalry as both sides are filled with talent as seven players have NCAA Division 1 offers or are committed already. Those players include Roman Laurio(Princeton), Dylan Mesman( 8 D1 offers), Garrett Baldwin( 1 D1 offer), and C.J. Carr(Notre Dame) for Saline. Then for Dexter, they have Cole Cabana(Michigan), Brennan Parachek(Michigan State), Reeves Taylor(1 D1 offer), and Micah Davis(3 D1 offers). In last year’s game, Saline squeezed out a 42-40 victory to win the league on their senior night.

This year will be a tad different as Saline dropped their first league game since 2013 when they lost to Bedford. Ironically it was Bedford who ended the streak as they beat Saline last week 7-0. A big reason for the loss was the play of five-star quarterback CJ Carr as he had what is his worst game as a varsity QB only completing eight of his 25 passing attempts for 88 yards.

For the Dreadnaughts, they clinched a share of the SEC-Red title last Friday, and a win over Saline will give them the outright league title for the first time since 1963. That was when they were in the Washington County Conference. Dexter showed a little bit of everything last week as Quarterback Reeves Taylor had a five-touchdown performance over Monroe as they won 52-13. Taylor found Michigan State commit Brennan Parachek for two touchdowns, as well as finding Joey Tessmer for two scores. Taylor then found fast riser Micah Davis for a score. Michigan commit Cole Cabana rushed for 93-yards and two more touchdowns. Then to cap off the night, kicker Gerzon Herter set a school record with a 49-yard field goal.

A Lot will be riding on this matchup. Can the Dreadnaughts win their first outright title in 59 years? Can the Hornets beat their rival, and spoil the celebration for Dexter? It’s a battle for the SEC-Red this Friday at 7 pm from Al Ritt Stadium on the campus of Dexter High School.
