BSN Downriver League MVP Finalists Powered by D1QB Lab

After nine weeks of action and plenty of phenomenal players that could be up for this award, we have narrowed the list down to our four finalists.

Chase Barbosa- Running Back/Outside Linebacker/Safety: Southgate Anderson

The first ever Junior on our list. Barbosa’s play on the field is MVP caliber, and without him, Southgate doesn’t finish with a 6-3 record, and they aren’t in the playoffs. Southgate was coming off of seven straight losing seasons before new head coach Bobby Martin came in and shuffled up things. That includes moving Barbosa from quarterback to running back. In nine games Barbosa had 953 yards and 18 touchdowns on 187 carries he also added 154 yards on 16 catches. On defense, Barbosa recorded 65 tackles, 15 of which are for a loss, and 7.5 sacks.

Ty Norgren- Quarterback: Trenton

The Senior signal caller for the Trenton Trojans has had a phenomenal season. Norgren jumped on the list late as he joined our watch list a week ago, but leading his team to wins over Chelsea, Woodhaven, and Allen Park has him staying on this list. On the season Norgren completed 28 of his 57 passes for 523 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also ran it 100 times for 816 yards and 10 touchdowns on his way to leading Trenton to their first league title since 2015.

Omari Carter- Running Back: Carlson

Another 1000-yard rusher for the Carlson Marauders, Carter came in and replaced last year’s MVP with his own MVP-caliber season running for 1374 yards and 11 touchdowns on 136 carries. Carter has proved to be a big-time player for Carlson after transferring in from St. Clair Shores South Lake. Against Lakeland, in week 8 Carter finished with 300 yards and a touchdown. Carter also helped the Marauders to a win over rival Allen Park in week three as he ran for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Devin Henry- Running Back: Woodhaven

Playing in only five and a half games this season due to injury Henry showed why he’s still a top dawg in the league running for 698 yards and 11 touchdowns while also pulling in 170 receiving yards makes him dynamic in both facets of the offense. His breakout this season came in week 8 after returning from injury he went off for 294 yards and 6 touchdowns. Now with Henry back, Woodhaven might be able to follow through with Henry’s promise of having the best backfield in the league

How to vote

You can vote in the comments by saying the player’s last name, on our poll on Twitter, or in the comment section on Facebook by saying the player’s last name. Remember to vote once per method and our winner will be announced next week. Votes from each method will be combined with the ballots that are sent out to former winners, coaches, and media in the area.
