After a week of firsts, we saw Lincoln Park win their first game of the year, 34-21, over Coldwater on homecoming, and we saw Flat Rock lose for the first time, 36-34, to Riverview. This week, we are heading to a Downriver League grudge match as Trenton hosts Carlson, and in our Game of the Week, we head to another Homecoming as River Rouge hosts Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
Trenton vs Carlson
A battle of 4-1 teams will grace our eyes this week as the Trojans of Trenton look to slow down the roll of the Carlson Marauders.
The Marauders come in with a record of 4-1, with their lone loss coming to out-of-conference opponent Carlton Airport in week one. Leading the way for the Marauders has been Sophomore Running Back Izaiah Wright. In five games this year, Wright has 600 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. He has also added 88 yards and two more touchdowns to give him 688 yards and 18 touchdowns. In last week’s 43-7 victory over Southgate, Wright rushed for 165 yards and five touchdowns. He is a big reason why the Marauders sit tied for the top of the Downriver League and average 42 points per game.
The Trojans come in at 4-1, with their lone loss coming in week one also, but theirs was in league to Southgate. Juniors Ashton Rooney and Drew Carson have led the way for the Trojans. Rooney has done it both running and receiving, as he has a total of 597 yards and eight touchdowns between the two. As for the Quarterback Keegan Lewis, he’s been more of a runner than a passer as he has 363 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground compared to 371 and four touchdowns under Center.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Trenton High School.
River Rouge vs Orchard Lake St. Mary’s-Game of the Week
It’s homecoming at River Rouge this week as the Panthers welcome in the Eaglets of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
The Panthers enter the game at 1-4 after playing one of the hardest early season schedules. A loss here could make it so they are out of the playoffs. Senior Nick Marsh is looking to ensure that doesn’t happen. Marsh has been involved in every aspect of the Panther’s offense this season, as he has run the ball 41 times for 336 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s pulled in 15 catches for 275 yards and three scores, and he’s even one of two passing the ball as he has thrown for a 40-yard touchdown. Marsh also has six kick returns totaling 300 yards and has a touchdown to go along with that.
The Eaglets come into this one at 2-3, and a win here will go a long way in the hunt for the playoffs. Junior Quarterback Axel Newell leads the Eaglets into this game who has passed for 777 yards and six touchdowns. Three of Newell’s touchdowns have gone to fellow Junior Bryson Williams. Williams has pulled in 13 catches for 295 yards and the three previously mentioned touchdowns. On defense, they are led by Junior Linebacker Charles (DJ) White, who leads the way with 39 tackles and a sack and a half.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from River Rouge High School.
