The Season is back, and we are diving right in with our Kroll Construction Kickoff weekend. We will be bringing you the action from Wayne State starting on Thursday and going until Saturday, an amazing six-game weekend that will start at 4 pm on Thursday with Walled Lake Western and Waterford Mott and end on Saturday at 4 pm with Detroit King taking on St. Xavier from Cincinnati.
Not only will we have our Kickoff weekend we will also have coverage of Southgate vs Trenton on Thursday.
Thursday
West Bloomfield vs Chippewa Valley
We kickoff our coverage with two schools meeting for the first time in history on Thursday night. The Lakers of West Bloomfield come in off of an 8-2 season where they failed to make it out of the Pre-District round for the first time since 2015. After a 7-3 season, the Big Reds of Chippewa Valley are looking to make some noise and find a way to make a deep run in the playoffs. The Big Reds last made it past the District Round in 2018, when they won the State Title.
Trenton vs Southgate
The Trenton Trojans and the Titans of Southgate Anderson should be well acquainted by this point, as the two will face off for the third time in less than a year. The Titans will rely on Running Back Chase Barbosa and Quarterback Jackson Sage to get them off to a good start. The Trojans are a different story, However. They have to break in a new starting Quarterback, Keegan Lewis, but they will return Running Back/Slot Receiver Liam Totten. The rematch of the pre-district game, which saw the Trojans beat the Titans for the sixth straight match, will kick off at 7 pm from Trenton High School.
Friday
Allen Park vs Taylor
In a game that has been a one-way affair for the Jaguars, as they are 4-0 versus the Taylor Griffins since the merger between Truman and Kennedy. Cam Johnson and Braylon Orsette will look to make it five straight over the Griffins. The Griffins will look to build off the close game played against the Jaguars from a year ago as it saw the Jaguars get out of it with a 30-21 victory. The Griffins will rely on Denzal Cyr and Anthony Celsi to try and get the victory. It is set for a 4 pm Kickoff from Wayne State.
River Rouge vs Belleville
For only the fifth time in history and the first time since 2004, River Rouge and Belleville will meet up with each other. This game will be a star-studded affair with the likes of Belleville’s Junior Quarterback Bryce Underwood and River Rouge’s Senior Receiver Nick Marsh. This game should be a high-scoring affair and could be the best game in the state. Wayne State in Detroit will be the backdrop for this one, with a kickoff set for 7 pm.
Saturday
Cass Tech vs Southfield A&T
Cass Tech and Southfield will open up the Season for the third straight year. Cass Tech has the series lead 2-1 in the three games before this one. Isaiah Marshall will look to lead the high-powered offense of Southfield A&T. For Cass Tech, they will look to Sophomore standout Corey Sadler Jr to help lead them past a tough Southfield team. It’s a 1 pm kickoff in a de facto home game from the Campus of Wayne State.
Detroit MLK vs St. Xavier
In the final game of our Kickoff weekend, the Crusaders of Detroit King welcome in the Bombers of St. Xavier(Ohio). For the Crusaders, this will be their first game following the graduation of Quarterback Dante Moore, as well as the start of their title defense. The Bombers enter this game at 1-0 on the Season as they beat Lakota West 10-0 in game one. While we don’t know who will start for King under center, we do know the Quarterback for St. Xavier, and that is the son of former Ohio State Buckeye Kirk Herbstreit, Chase Herbstreit. In last week’s game, Herbstreit threw for 137 yards. Other players to watch for the Bombers are Sophomore Running Back Jacob Britt and Sophomore Defensive Back Brayden Reilly. Britt scored the lone touchdown for the Bombers last week, and Reilly had two interceptions. The final from Wayne State Kicks off at 4 pm.
