Rivalry week in the Downriver League is nothing without the annual matchup between the Warriors of Woodhaven and the Marauders of Carlson. On the line for Woodhaven was an outright league championship, and for Carlson was a share of the championship with Woodhaven and Allen Park.
After a year off of the rivalry due to a shortened season last year the Marauders were ready for revenge after losing to them 37-22 in Ian Stewart’s senior year.
Friday night was a different story however. Following an opening drive fumble in the red zone from the Marauders the Warriors marched down the field, and gave it to Syracuse commit Cornell Perry who ran it in from four yards out to give them a 7-0 lead with four minutes left in the first quarter which would be the only score in the first.
From that point on it would be all Marauders. Brandon Scheffler would open the scoring for Carlson with a seven yard run to tie it up at 7. Following the score midway through the second quarter the Marauders decided to go for an onside kick and recovered it.
From that point forward it was the Cody Britt show as the senior running back would go on to have 180 yards and three touchdowns on the night said following the game “My O-line did everything for me. They blocked their hardest and I ran my hardest.” Britt Also chimed in on winning a share of the league by saying that it’s the best feeling in the world. He continued by saying “Never thought we could do this but here we are, and it feels great.”
