Carlson vs Woodhaven Hockey Takeaways

We opened our Hockey coverage on November 16, 2023, with the Woodhaven Warriors hosting the Carlson Marauders. The Marauders came out on top in this one by a final of 7-1.

Woodhaven Warriors

Gassed

The Warriors fell to 0-2 after the loss to the Marauders. It was their second game in as many days. They were playing the game in their own zone for the majority of the game, as they were outshot 47 to 8. They were able to get one goal across, but playing a back-to-back in as physical of a game as it was, the Warriors looked gassed by the middle of the second period.

Carlson Marauders

Hatty + One For 16

Let’s get it straight: while Drake Dietz finished with four goals and two assists in the game, his hat trick was the talk in the win. Dietz scored his third goal two minutes and fifteen seconds into the second period. Dietz was able to score his four goals and assist on two others while being the focus of the attack from the Warriors.

Hard Hitting

This game was a hard-hitting affair. It was a reminder of how hockey used to be. You saw the hostility between the two teams, and that was only aided by the Marauders Student Section, or The Mosh Pit as they call it. The Mosh Pit was into the game, and you could feel their energy on the big hits that the Marauders had.

Penalties

While both teams racked up the penalty minutes, the Marauders had six trips to the penalty box. No one spent more time in the box than Jager Whitten. Whitten plays with a high motor, and it tripped him up a few times. While he might have been tripped up in this one, it was only the first game, and those issues should be cleaned up quickly. The Marauders will need to clean up the penalties if they want to reach their full potential.
