In the final game of the 2020-21 High School Football season DeWitt stayed perfect as they ran through defending division 3 champion River Rouge by a final of 40-30 to capture the school’s first title.
For DeWitt they were led by quarterback Ty Holtz who went off for 177 passing yards and four touchdowns on 12 of 16 passing, and he added another 118 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. After the game Holtz said “It’s a team sport. I looked to my line and receivers to make plays, and they did.” Holtz talked about how the confidence, leadership, and swagger of his team was part of the difference saying “We went into the game knowing we were going to win, and that propelled us.”
River Rouge Coach Corey Parker said following the game that DeWitt had good components that allowed them to open up the running game. For River Rouge though a big piece in trying to come back was Freshman Nick Marsh who had a spectacular touchdown catch where he truly earned his “Megatron” nickname said following the game “I wasn’t really sure what was going to happen, but I went out there with a bunch of confidence and made the plays.”
