Cass Tech won its first state title beating Muskegon 78-63. Here are our takeaways from the game.
Muskegon Needs a Tape Measure
Muskegon’s height advantage should have been taken advantage of. They rarely looked to get their big man involved. Terrance Davis had four shots, one of which came on an alley-oop, but after the first quarter, they went away from looking at Davis, although he was giving the team some life when he would touch the ball. Although he got in foul trouble late, he wasn’t used much in the first half when he finished the half with one foul.
Three-point shooting
Both teams were fond of the three-point shot during the game. Muskegon took 31 threes and made 11 of them for 35.5%. Most of those came late, and they went on a run of made threes late in the third to take the lead momentarily. On the other hand, Cass Tech took half as many,16, and hit five of them for 31.3%. While both teams shot over 30% from three, Cass took advantage of attacking the basket.
Buff Cuff
Mr. Buffs Darius Acuff is him. Acuff had 19 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals in the championship game. He did all of this, including coming into the postgame press conference with a pair of buffs on as a sophomore. As a sophomore, Acuff averaged over 21 points per game, won his school’s first state title, and wore buffs into a press conference. He officially put the state on notice today.
