Downriver League Defensive Player of the Year Finalists

We are handing out a new award this season, the Defensive Player of the Year. Here are the finalists for the award.

Reed Picotte- Allen Park

He has been called the best player in the league by some, but one thing is sure: he delivers a hard hit. While his numbers aren’t eye-popping at first glance, Picotte is the glue for the Allen Park defense. Playing only a half in each game most weeks due to the score, Picotte racked up 71 tackles and six sacks; he forced a fumble and had two fumble recoveries, as well as breaking up two passes.

Teegan Nagy- Carlson

The Sophomore defensive back for the Marauders is a do-it-all all machine. Nagy recorded 62 tackles during the regular season while adding three sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.

Brock Culepepper- Trenton

Another Sophomore who made an impact for his team this year, racking up 96 tackles. He also added two sacks and a fumble recovery from his linebacker position. Culpepper will be making plays for years to come for the Trenton defense.

Andrew Porter- Southgate

Senior Andrew Porter came into his own in the second year under Head Coach Bobby Martin. Porter racked up 89 tackles and three interceptions. Porter also broke up two passes for a Southgate team that is on the rise.

Logan Ferrell- Lincoln Park

Hey, look, another Sophomore has made the list, and this one goes to Lincoln Park. Logan Ferrell put up big numbers at a new position for the Railsplitters in 2023, accumulating 83 tackles, four of which were for a loss, four sacks, and a fumble recovery.
