Downriver League DPOY Finalist

Although we didn’t make a watchlist this year for the Defensive Player of the Year award, we do have our list of players who made the list of the award’s finalists.

Ansel Fater-Linebacker-Trenton

Ansel Fater was a tank for the Trenton Trojans on the defensive side of the ball. Fater compiled 99 tackles and two sacks on the year. He also recovered two fumbles this season for the Trojans. Fater’s play doesn’t come out of nowhere, as he put up similar numbers a year ago for the Trojans.

Conner Ensign- Linebacker- Southgate

Conner Ensign has been a two-way stud for the Southgate Titans. Ensing has patrolled the middle of the field for the Titans, racking up 92 tackles and five quarterback hits this season for a team that has surprised some. Not only is he a big hitter, but he has also broken up two passes and forced a fumble to help the Titans this year.

Kenny McCurdy- Linebacker- Carlson

Kenny McCurdy was phenomenal for the Carlson Marauders as a junior in their linebacking core. McCurdy only played in seven games this season, but he made all seven count, totaling 54 tackles, two pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a recovered fumble for the league-winning Marauders.

Sean Bailey-Defensive End-Lincoln Park

The Senior strong-side Defensive End was a difference-maker for the Railspiltters. Sean Bailey made 50 Tackles and had 4 Sacks for the team. He also caused two fumbles and recovered one that he took back for a touchdown. Although he played the defensive end position, Bailey was also able to break up a pass this year.
