Downriver League MVP Finalists

With the regular high school football season officially in the rearview mirror, we have officially narrowed down our candidates for the Bear Sports Network Downriver MVP Award. These are the best players in the League who will be up for the award.

Joe Krolak- Quarterback- Carlson

Joe Krolak is the Senior Quarterback for one of the most dynamic offenses in the League. Krolak was a phenomenal passer, completing 73 of the 110 passes he threw this year for 1079 yards and 13 touchdowns, but part of what made the senior so dynamic was his ability to run the ball. Krolak took the ball and ran for 927 yards and 14 touchdowns on 84 carries. He stepped up when his backfield mate and MVP from last year, Izaiah Wright, was out. He kept his team on the right path and was able to win their fourth straight Downriver League title.

Ashton Rooney- Running Back- Trenton

The main source for the Trenton Trojan offense has been the Senior Ashton Rooney. Rooney has carried the ball 141 times for 1361 yards and 15 touchdowns. Rooney has broken the career rushing and single-season rushing records throughout the season. Rooney currently sits four touchdowns away from the single-season record and three away from the career touchdown record. Both of which he could still get before the season is over.

Weston Glei- Wide Receiver- Allen Park

The Senior wide receiver for the Allen Park Jaguars put together a phenomenal season for a team that is more known for running the ball than throwing it. Glei pulled in 30 receptions in nine games for 461 yards and five touchdowns. In a season that has given the Jaguars many trials, Glei’s play has been the main constant for the Jaguars this season. Glei’s high level of play this season is even more impressive, as he has played on both sides of the ball for a team that has started moving away from players playing both sides.

Jamir King- Running Back- Lincoln Park

The Senior power running back for the Lincoln Park Railsplitters showed he could be a force in the backfield. King rushed for 889 yards and 12 touchdowns on 110 carries. King then showed off his hands as he pulled in three receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown. King’s ability to show off his speed in space and his bruising power running through the middle of the opposing defense shows his versatile play on offense.

Jackson Sage- Quarterback- Southgate

The Senior Quarterback for the Southgate Titans has put together a phenomenal three-year run as the starter. This year, however, Sage has put it all together. He completed 80 of the 129 passes he attempted this season for 1356 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also ran for 505 yards and 11 touchdowns on 60 carries. His ability to extend plays made him a dangerous player this season.

      1. I vote for Jackson Sage
I’ve known him for 8+ yrs and he has ALWAYS been a remarkable young man on and off the field

  1. I believe Joseph Krolak should definitely be MVP. He has played tirelessly all season. Played the last game with stitches from an injury playing. He’s playing now in the playoffs. All season he has worked hard to help all his teammates. Please look at his stats and consider him.
He is a senior and would so much appreciate such a honor.

  2. Easy. Joe Krolak. He’s the only QB on here that can run and throw. Dual threat QB is more valuable than any RB.
