This week’s D1QB LAB Game of the Week takes us back to the Downriver League for the most shocking matchup as the Southgate Anderson Titans (2-2) travel to Taylor to face off against the Taylor Griffins (1-3).
Both teams are on their way back as Southgate is led by first-year head coach Bobby Martin who took over the program following six years as the defensive coordinator at Allen Park High School. Martin has the team playing well as they have already surpassed their win total of a year ago. A big part of that goes to running back Chase Barbosa who has eight rushing touchdowns on 515 yards rushing.
On the other side of things is Taylor under third-year head coach Michael Pitts. While Pitts only has four wins in his three years his team has gotten progressively better. A reason for that is the defensive unit that boasts one of the best players in the league in Defensive End Laurent Douamou and then they also have Safety Isaiah Hollimon who has four interceptions in four games this year. The statement game so far this season for Taylor has been the 30-21 loss to Allen Park, who in the three previous meetings prior has beaten Taylor by more than 20 points in each game.
This game is sure to go to the wire and could see both teams leave tonight with the same record, or Southgate could put their name out there and try for a playoff spot in a loaded division 3.
