Hoops Takeaway: Inter-City Baptist Wins on a Special Night as Ethan Esse Scores his 1000th Point.

It was a special night at Allen Park Inter-City Baptist as the Chargers took on the Plymouth Christian Eagles. In the game not only was it a battle between two league foes but one of the bigger stories of the night would be could star junior Ethan Esse who entered six points shy of 1000 get to that milestone? The Chargers behind 34 points from Esse would cruise to a 75-50 win.

Physical Play

While the game doesn’t show it it was a physical game and that was brought on by the Eagles of Plymouth Christian. While the Chargers jumped out to an early lead the Eagles battled back and caused fouls to be called against the Chargers and they also weren’t afraid to attack the rim. While attacking the rim didn’t do much in the way of helping them win, that is where they got the chargers to commit the fouls. On the defensive side of the ball they didn’t give much up physically either as they were able to throw off the chargers by committing some hard fouls and trying to defend the rim against the onslaught that was led by Ethan Esse.

Mr.1000

In a game that was over pretty early on the big story of the night was the play of Ethan Esse. Esse entered the game six points shy of 1000 for his career, and he’s only a junior. While Esse got to that milestone midway through the first quarter he didn’t stop there as he turned in one of the most dominating performances we’ve ever seen from the young man.  Esse scored 34 points in the victory but also assisted on seven other baskets, grabbing two rebounds and stealing the ball three times. Esse shot the ball at a 63% success rate and was lights out from the free throw line as he made all seven of his shots he took from the line. This game was a perfect example of a player being able to take over a game for his team and lead them to victory on a night where he scored seven less than the rest of his team combined, which isn’t what the Chargers box score normally looks like.

If you have yet to see Esse and the rest of his teammates from Inter-City Baptist do yourself a favor, and make your way out as you won’t be disappointed in the product they put on the court.
