The Ann Arbor Huron River Rats welcomed cross-town rival the Ann Arbor Skyline Eagles in for a game that could help the River Rats clench the SEC-Red title, and it was also a monumental night for Senior Guard Macari Moore as he could break the school scoring record. Moore and the rest of the River Rats accomplished both in the game as they beat the Eagles 79-54 behind a 28-point night from Macari Moore.
Skyline Eagles
Defense?
Yes, I’m well aware of the final score, but in the first half, that was the story of the game for the Eagles. In that first half, the Eagles held everyone but Macari Moore and Dom Krzesowiak in check. They held Huron to 39 points in that first half, and 26 of them came from their electric duo. The Eagles were pressing and playing a tight-man defense, but it looked like they were getting worn out at the end of the first half, and they looked like that and dragging coming out of halftime is what did them in, as Huron would drop 25 on them in the third quarter.
Huron River Rats
Dynamic Duo
While the night belonged to Macari Moore, it was a dynamic night for the River Rats’ star players Moore and Dom Krzesowiak. While Moore would go off for 28 points and break the school record for scoring, Krzesowiak would have a phenomenal first half in the game. Krzesowiak scored 12 points in the first half, including a perfect five-for-five from the line. Not only was he a factor on offense, but he also played a big role in shutting down the Eagles when they had the ball, and his defensive effort turned into points for Moore. On the other hand, Moore took what his team gave him as he would score 28 points in the game, with 14 coming in the first half and 14 coming in the second half.
Leading Scorer
Records are meant to be broken, and one that stood for 46 years was finally broken at Ann Arbor Huron. Back in 1979, Erich Santifer set the school record for points in a career with 1484. Well, against cross-town rival Ann Arbor Skyline. Moore, who only needed 27 points to break the record, scored 28 in the win. Moore had 25 points after three-quarters of play and was one point away from tying the record, so what does he do? Moore sets up and takes and makes a three-pointer early in the fourth to break the record and help seal the deal to lock up the game and the SEC-Red title on his night.
