Our wrap-up to rivalry week gave us a good old Catholic League brawl as De La Salle traveled to face off against Brother Rice. In the first matchup between the two teams, Brother Rice came out on top by a final of 63-42, but would the outcome stay the same, or would it be different? Brother Rice entered this one on a four-game losing streak, and De La Salle had gotten back star junior Phoenix Glassnor. It made for a more exciting game, but it was the same result as Brother Rice edged out De La Salle 47-45.
Brother Rice
Changing of the Guard
Last season, Johnathan Blackwell, now at Wisconsin, led the Brother Rice offense. This year, Junior David Williams is leading the offense for Brother Rice. While he isn’t the scorer that Blackwell was, he flies around the court and is a facilitator. In the game against De La Salle, he had four assists, three rebounds, and three steals.
De La Salle
Star Growing
Yes, the big name is Phoenix Glassnor, but he has a Co-Pilot named Armoni Portis. Portis, also a junior, had 15 in the losing effort. He led the team in scoring on a night that Glassnor looked off. If Portis can truly become that co-pilot, then De La Salle will have a great one-two punch.
