Two football powerhouses in the Downriver League met on the basketball court as the Carlson Marauders welcomed in the Allen Park Jaguars. Both teams had to play back-to-back nights. Carlson knocked off Lincoln Park on January 25th, and Allen Park fell to Southgate. The Marauders couldn’t make it two in a row as the Jaguars came out on top 57-35.

Guard Play
The players with the biggest impact for the Carlson Marauders were Junior Guards Matthew MacBride and Brody Lavis. MacBride stole the show in the first half as he hit a shot from just inside half-court to end the first quarter. Once the Jaguars decided to key in on MacBride as the guy the Marauders were trying to go to, they adjusted to Lavis. Lavis seemed like he had more than the 10 points he finished with, but that was because the ball was in his hands almost every trip down the floor. It was indeed a guard show for the Marauders.

Three-Headed Attack
The Jaguars didn’t just ride one guy in the 57-35 victory. Brandon Powell, Jack Labiak, and Cam Johnson all played a part in the victory. Powell finished with 21 points, which was a team and game-high; Labiak had 13, and Johnson had 15. While Powell had more points, the play of three sport stud Cam Johnson gave the Jaguars the edge in the game. He had two breakaway baskets, one in each half, and he had his hands all over the game. It was his game, and everyone else was just watching.
