In what was an exciting down to the end game, the Shamrocks of Detroit Catholic Central traveled to Dearborn to take on the Pioneers. The Pioneers came out on top in this one by a final of 52-48.
Detroit Catholic Central
Three Ball Come Back
Coming into the second half of the game trailing by four, the Shamrocks of Catholic Central decided it was time for the three-ball to help them get back. They made four threes early in the third to help them take the lead going into the fourth quarter while playing a solid defense that kept a solid Dearborn team at bay. The shamrocks only hit six threes, with four coming in the third, which lit the fire for them.
Sophomore Stud
If you haven’t seen the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks in a while, you have to make it a point to get out and see the team. However, the standout for us in the games we’ve seen this year has been Sophomore Asher Suardini. Suardini plays with a high motor and looks like he leads the team on the court. In the loss to Dearborn, he brought up the ball and wasn’t afraid to shoot it. In the Dearborn loss, Suardini finished with 16 points, and he’s been a bright spot both times we’ve seen Catholic Central this year.
Dearborn
Two Years Time
It’s finally here the team that the Pioneers of Dearborn have been waiting for since the 2021-22 school year has arrived. They started out the gate on fire, and their studs were studs. From Senior’s Nassim Mashhour, Ali Homayed, and Ali Makki to Junior Hamoody Mashhour and Sophomore Hassan Makki, this is the team that has had hype around them. Anything less than a deep playoff run would be a disappointment for the players and the school with as much hype as has been put on them, and after beating Detroit Catholic Central, there is no reason to believe that it couldn’t happen with the way they play.
Mashhour Hour
The Dearborn Pioneers are a dangerous team led by Nassim Mashhour and his two younger brothers. In the game over Catholic Central, the Mashhour brothers were Nassim, who had the most points and showed why he was the best player, making plays all over the court. His brother Hamoody started for the Pioneers but got in early foul trouble, limiting his impact on the game; he was still able to add six points in the second half that helped lead his team to a win. The youngest brother, Adam Mashhour, didn’t show up in the point totals, but he still showed poise in the game when he entered in the second half.
Brotherly Love
The Dearborn Basketball team is full of brotherly love. They have two sets of brothers, and both sets impacted the game’s outcome. You have the Mashhour Brothers (Nassim, Hamoody, and Adam) and the Makki Brothers (Ali and Hassan). While Nassim had a team-high 20 points, Ali was right behind him with 14. Hamoody and Hassan combined for eight points, but they look like the next leaders of this Dearborn team. Adam Mashhour is still just a freshman who is getting used to the fast pace of varsity play, but you can see the talents he’s taken from his two older brothers.
