The senior-led Gabriel Richard Pioneers met up with the upstarts out of Arts & Technology of Pontiac for the Division Three state finals. Gabriel Richard would come away with the 79-63 win to claim the first basketball title in school history.
Gabriel Richard
The Team
With the two big stars for Gabriel Richard missing in action for the majority of the game, the rest of the team picked up the slack. Drew Everingham, Charles Kage, and Bryce White each picked up the team with Luke Westerdale and Nick Sobush getting pressed heavily by a team that wouldn’t let two of the best in the state beat them. However, what ATAP wasn’t expecting after shutting down those two was the offensive output the rest of the seniors would have, and that was led by Everingham and Kage, each of whom would have a double-double in the game. It’s a group of unselfish guys, and each of them wants to see the others succeed in what they do.
Arts & Technology of Pontiac
Baby Faced Assassin
You may know his older brother, Orlando Lovejoy Jr., but you need to learn the name Lewis Lovejoy. The younger Lovejoy is a freshman, and he looks every bit of it, with the exception of his shot. He may only be a freshman, but he is his team’s driving force, which was evident in the two games at Breslin. In the Semifinals and Finals, he scored a combined 40. He took charge in the games, and it didn’t look like the bright lights affected him as he was his team’s leading scorer and do-it-all man.
