The Carlson Marauders hosted the Allen Park Inter-City Baptist Chargers for both teams’ first game of 2025. While Carlson quickly took the lead, Inter-City Baptist won by a final score of 62-44.
Carlson Marauders
Falling Flat
The Carlson Marauders started fast in the game, but the second half saw them fall flat. At one point in the game, the Marauders led the Chargers of Inter-City Baptist by 10 points, but an eight-point run to close out the first half and an early run in the third quarter was all the Chargers needed to trip up the Marauders. Trent Ison did all he could to help the Marauders, as he had a team-high 13 points and 10 rebounds. While the team did fall flat in the second half, they showed that they had the ability to fight and stay in the game against one of the best teams in the area.

Stars Uploading
I can already hear you saying how many times are you going to go see the Chargers, or we know who we are going to read about. However, that’s where you’re wrong. Yes, Ethan Esse and Carlos Jackson are the stars of this team, but in the game against Carlson, it was Mason Kowalski and Jack Dawson who had big nights for the team. Dawson scored 19 points on 70% shooting and found ways to get open in the game when other players were cold or out due to foul trouble.
Kowalski is a different story, though. He only scored seven points, but that’s not what made him impressive in the win. It was his ability to grab the rebound or pass out of his shot to someone with a better look that made him impressive. He led the team in both categories with seven assists and nine rebounds. Even though Esse outscored everyone, this game was more about the guys you haven’t heard much about, and that is due to unselfish team basketball.
Road to 1000
Star guard Ethan Esse is closing in on 1000 points for his High School career, and he’s only a junior. Entering the game against Carlson, Esse was sitting 52 points away from 1000, and while he didn’t get it in this game, he scored 23 points and now sits 29 points away from 1000. He could reach that milestone in their road game on Thursday against Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest, and getting it when you can is amazing. However, they have a home game next Tuesday, January 14th, against rival Plymouth Christian. I’m sure Esse would love to give the Charger faithful a night to remember against their rival.
