After an injury to one of River Rouge’s star players in pregame warmups delayed the start of the game between the River Rouge Panthers and the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks, it officially got underway shortly before 8:00 PM. Once the game did get underway, River Rouge took the early lead and did not look back, winning by a final of 57-53.
River Rouge Panthers
Heart on Your Sleeve
After an injury to one of their key players in pregame warmups, the Panthers of River Rouge were emotional as they went through their pregame warmups once they got back on the court. While their teammate’s injury weighed heavily on them, they were able to put that aside and win the game for him. As Shae Eggleston and CJ Hearns told us post-game, they dedicated this game to their injured teammate. The eight-point difference in the first quarter was all they needed as they hung on to win the game despite being outscored the rest of the way.
Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks
First Quarter Blues
The first quarter of the game between River Rouge and Detroit Catholic Central is one that the Shamrocks of Catholic Central will want to forget. The Shamrocks were outscored 21-13 in the first quarter; however, over the final three-quarters of the game, the Shamrocks outscored the River Rouge Panthers 40-36. The first-quarter low point for the Shamrocks could be due to the Panthers coming out fired up after one of their players suffered an injury during pregame warmups and having the game delayed for about forty minutes. While the Shamrocks did suffer in that first quarter, they showed that they can bounce back in a difficult situation, which will help them down the season’s final stretch.
