Hillsdale took on St. Mary Catholic Central(SMCC) in the other Regional Semifinal held at Riverview Gabriel Richard. If a blowout like what we saw between Arbor Prep and Gabriel Richard isn’t your speed, a thrilling close game like what we got with SMCC and Hillsdale might be what you were looking for on Tuesday night. While the game went back and forth, SMCC would walk away victorious by a final of 70-66. The SMCC win and the Gabriel Richard win will make Thursday’s Regional Final a great night of guard play as Ian Foster will have to match up with one of Luke Westerdale or Nick Sobush making for an interesting game.

The game was never out of reach for the Hornets of Hillsdale High School as they kept hitting shot after shot. Whether it was Brody Adams or Jace Lennox hitting the shot, they were in the game. When it looked like they were falling out of it late in the game, they battled back and hit a three, making it a one-point game with 25 seconds left to play. While they ultimately fell short of winning the game, it was still down to the wire, and they have nothing to look down upon in the game.

Not only did SMCC win to move on to the regional final, but they also saw Senior Guard Ian Foster eclipse 1000 points. While the story will be the win, how well they ran the floor, and how nice each of the passes looked, Foster was the show’s star. Early on, it looked like they might have been force-feeding him, which might have led to some of the early issues for them in the game. Water found its level, and Foster would go on to be as good as advertised in the game. Foster would end the night scoring 23 points in the win, tying him with his head coach in career points at SMCC at 1015 points. They showed a lot in the game, which could help them when they take on Gabriel Richard for the regional final on Thursday. Not only is Foster a great scorer, but he was also a phenomenal leader on the court, commanding the attention that led to some wide-open shots from other guys.
