Hoops Takeaways: Warren Lincoln Goes Back-to-Back as State Champions.

The Summit Academy Dragons faced the defending Division Two Champions, the Abes of Warren Lincoln, to cap off the night. The defending Champs had their work cut out for them, but in the end, the experience that the Abes had would be too much as they would become the first back-to-back State Champions in Macomb County history as they would win it 58-51

Same-Same But Different

The Abes and Dragons are so similar it’s scary. The two teams like to attack the basket at a high clip that allows them to draw fouls, and they each are lights out from the free throw line. If you look at the stat lines for each team, they are very similar in everything.

Not Scared

The Dragons of Summit Academy stayed poised and composed in their first taste of State Finals Basketball. They would fall behind but battled back each time to tie it up or take a small lead in the game. It was a battle for the Dragons, and they never let in or let up, and that could have been the easy way out with everything they went through with three different coaches the last three years. Still, they stayed and battled til the bitter end and even had chances to close it out and become state champions.

Back-to-Back

The Abes were looking to be the lone team at the State Finals to repeat as State Champions this year, and they did. They are the first team in Macomb County history to repeat as champions, and it was due to their unselfish play on the court. Not only did they repeat as champs, but they did it without subbing the entire game. All five of their starters went 32 minutes in the win, which is a sign of a well-conditioned team, and every one of the players postgame mentioned that conditioning as a reason why they are now back-to-back champions.
