After East Lansing shocked the state by upsetting Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, it was time to find out who East Lansing would play in the state final. Would it be a team led by their own big three of stars in Wayne Memorial, or could Flint Carman-Ainsworth help make the Division 1 state finals an unlikely but exciting game that no one saw coming? In the end, Wayne Memorial would come away with a victory of 66-49.
Flint Carman-Ainsworth
Hot Start Cold Finish
While they came out on fire and had the lead at the end of the first quarter, the hot start would soon be squandered as they didn’t have enough to keep up with Wayne Memorial. While they came out with high intensity in the first quarter, they lost in the second quarter, leading to them falling behind and eventually losing the game to Wayne Memorial.
Wayne Memorial
Not How you Start, it’s How you Finish
While the game may have been close in the first half, it was all Wayne Memorial coming out of halftime. However, a big reason for the win was the play of Carlos Medlock Jr. Medlock, who dropped 29 points in the win and added eight rebounds and six assists. Wayne Memorial is at its best when they run through Medlock, and that’s what they did from the second quarter onward. They fought for a spot in the State Final game after not being in the final four since 1996.
