The Allen Park Jaguars met The Riverview Pirates in the district playoffs for the third time in the last four years on Friday night and like the last two times, it was an Allen Park victory.
The game started with a bang for Allen Park as they were able to find the end zone 4 minutes into the game as Sunerio Hamilton ran it in from 14 yards out to give the Jaguars a 7-0 lead. That lead would soon wash away as the Pirates would score off a 25 yard run and a 2-pt conversion off the back of Reece Wakeman to make it 8-7.
The first half would be sloppy as the wet conditions made the balls slick leading to at least six fumbles on the night. The Jaguars would end the half up two as they would hit a 25 yard field goal with 10 seconds left in the half.
The second half came and Riverview jumped out in front as Ben Johnson took the handoff and rushed 49 muddy yards to pay dirt. From there the Jaguars would score on a 25 yard run from Kevin Lebron. Then on the ensuing Pirates drive Nick Kilburg would intercept the pass and run it back to the end zone to give the Jaguars two touchdowns in 10 seconds to make it a 22-14 game.
Following the pick-six on the ensuing kickoff Jacob Shank would take it 98 yards for the score to make it 22-20 following the missed conversion. From there Jaguars running back Sunerio Hamilton would find the end zone one final time to give the Jaguars a 28-20 victory. On the night Hamilton said he couldn’t have done it without his offensive lineman adding “It’s always easy to run behind those big boys upfront.”
