MIHL Showcase Takeaways: Sparta used all of their Might to Beat Lumen Christi

The day’s final game pitted the Titans of Lumen Christi against the Spartans of Sparta. The game was a tale of two sides. The Spartans threw shot after shot on goal, and the goalie for the Titans stood tall in the net and acted as a brick wall to deny the Spartans. One thing that would have to give in the game was the defense around one of the best goaltenders in the state, as the Spartans would walk away with a 3-2 victory.

Lumen Christi

Brick Wall

Zach Jaakkola was an absolute monster in the net in the loss to Sparta. Normally, if you lose a game in hockey, it’s because of the goalie, but in this case, it isn’t that simple. Jaakkola faced 44 shots on goal in the game, which comes out to just under 15 shots on goal each period. To only let three goals in while facing that many shots is outstanding. Jaakkola was the main reason his team was in the game, and it’s a shame he had to take the loss.

Sparta

Shots, Shots, Shots Everybody

The Sparta Spartans threw everything and the kitchen sink at the Lumen Christi Titans goalie, and they only won 3-2. The Spartans had 44 shots on goal, and most nights, that would be more than enough to win by a bigger margin, but when you’re facing off against one of the best in the state, you’ll find yourself in a dogfight like the Spartans did. The game-winning goal didn’t come until the game’s final minute as Tanner Guerra found the back of the net.
