After two weeks of voting and countless ballots back from coaches and other media outlets, we are ready to announce the winners of both the BSN MVP award and the first-ever Defensive Player of the Year award.
You will get to learn more about these players in the coming weeks, as they will also be the focus of our player spotlight series,
Defensive Player of the Year Award
Our first-ever Defensive Player of the Year award goes to Allen Park High School’s Reed Picotte. Picotte earned the inaugural award after an outstanding season from his middle linebacker position, putting up 71 tackles and six sacks. He is also credited for causing a fumble, recovering two fumbles, and breaking up two passes.
On winning this award, Picotte said it means a lot to win the first Defensive Player of the Year award. “I couldn’t have done what I did without my guys upfront getting hands-on and keeping me clean,” he added. “I owe it to them”. What Picotte wanted to say to everyone who voted for him and supported him is, “I truly appreciate it,” he would also add, “I’m thankful for every vote.”
MVP Award
For the second time in the last three years, it’s a Carlson Running Back that wins the award. This year also marks the first time an underclassman has won our MVP award. The MVP goes to Sophomore Izaiah Wright. On the season, Wright rushed for 1492 yards and 24 touchdowns on 183 carries. He would also add eight receptions for 130 yards and two more scores on the way to helping his team win their third straight and first solo Downriver League title.
On being the first underclassman to win the award, “It means so much to me,” according to Wright. He would say, “Being able to win this award as a Sophomore just shows that with the right teammates and coaches around, you can accomplish anything.” Wright also wanted to thank the people who helped him become the first Sophomore to win the award by saying, “To everyone who supported me and the team. I want to thank them for everything. I love playing at Marauder Stadium in front of my family, friends, and all of the fans.” he would add that he’s looking forward to his next two years of high school football. Wright would finish by giving a shoutout to “Marauder Country,” saying, “I love all of you.”
Congratulations Reed on the Defensive Player of the year award. Proud of you!
Congrats Izaiah on the MVP award.
Fun watching you both on the field this year.
Such a cool experience for these kids getting an award and pizza party from Bear Sports Network.
