Playoff Puck Takeaways: Trenton vs White Lake Lakeland

The second Division 2 State Semifinal game on March 7, 2024, was a rematch of a game from earlier in the season that saw the Trenton Trojans beat the White Lake Lakeland Eagles 3-2. They met again for a chance to go to the State Finals. It was much the same story, as the Trojans came out on top 5-0. Trenton will now look to win their first State Title in Hockey since 2014 as they will face off against Byron Center at 11 a.m. on March 9, 2024.

Trenton Trojans

Quick Strike

The Trenton Trojans scored seven minutes into this one as Sophomore Jayden Jones got his first on the night. He would also go on to score again in the third. The Trojans would add two more goals in the first period of play, one from Senior Boston Bennett, and Gabe Polyviou, a Sophomore, also added one to make it a 3-0 game. The second period of play was a tough defensive battle that saw no scoring, but the third period of action was when Jones found the back of the net for his second of the night, and Senior Captain Will Barrett added his 22nd goal of the season to wrap up the scoring. Barrett and Bennett also assisted on goals in the game.

Brick Wall

Trojan goalie Junior Evan Sivi had a big game in net for the Trojans. Sivi stopped all 21 shots on goal, including some tough ones late in the second period. After the game, Head Coach Chad Clements praised his goalie for the job he did in net, and Sivi said that his teammates’ support helped him stand tall in the game.

Lakeland Eagles

Hard Fought

The Eagles of White Lake Lakeland battled hard, and even after going down 3-0 in the first, they tried their best to get back into it in the second period as they made Trenton goalie Evan Sivi stand on his head for some saves late in the period. One of the shots looked like it snuck in, but Sivi stopped it with his chest, and it went down a pad to his skate. When they went on the attack, and you thought they might have an odd-man attack, Trenton’s speed played a factor, and it stopped the attacking Eagles before they truly had a chance to break free.
