The Division 6 State Finals saw Jackson Lumen Christi, who bumped up after winning a Division 7 crown last year, face off against Lansing Catholic. With Lumen Christi looking for a record 14th state title, could they do it against a team that has won it three times before? Well, the answer was yes, they could, as they took it from start to finish and won it 56-18.
Lansing Catholic
Perfect Spiral
Quarterback Alex Fernandez played a flawless game, but it wasn’t enough. Fernandez showed off his arm and his speed in the state final game. Fernandez completed 21 of his 29 passing attempts for 284 yards and two touchdowns, and he had some perfect spin on the ball out of his hand as he was able to complete some deep passes that another Quarterback in high school might have had a hard time completing. He was also able to take off and run as he rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown. Although his team lost, Fernandez balled out.

The Team…The Team… The Team
Lumen Christi is all about the team, and that is what has led them to a state record 14th state title, and the head coach Herb Brogan has been on the sideline for all of them as an assistant and later as the Head Coach. Post-game, Brogan, who has been the head coach since 1980, said that this is all a team effort and always has been. Getting to a state final is hard work, but getting to 17 of them and winning 14 is a massive accomplishment. The way they did it was impressive. The offense was firing on all cylinders, and the defense locked it down and forced them into some tough spots.
Record Setting Run
Earlier this year at Ford Field, we saw Williams break a school record of six touchdowns in a game, and in the State Title game, he broke the record for most rushing yards in a state championship game with 314 yards, and he tied the touchdown record with five. “It’s like a second home,” Williams said on his record-breaking year at Ford Field. He said, “We understand when we play there, the lights are bright, so we do what we have to do to get the dub every time we are there.” Also, a fun fact that will surely be outdated in a week is that Kadale Williams has the same number of touchdowns at Ford Field this season as David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs at 11. So I guess he could be Manic, Sonic’s little brother, or you tell us.
