Following a 3-6 season, the Canton Chiefs went out and brought in a new Head Coach, and that man is Casey Bess. Bess comes to Canton after spending 12 years as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Battle Creek Central for the last six years.
For Bess, he returns eight members on offense, and nine are back on the defensive side of the ball. Those returners have helped Bess make sure guys show up and get their work done. He added that having a group of guys with that much chemistry back for the team, even though they went 3-6 a year ago, is nice.
Before the official start of the camp began for the Chiefs, Bess, and his Staff sat down and talked, and they all concluded that the team was farther along than they expected, and he put that on both his senior leaders and his staff.
One of the battles that they still needed to figure out was at the Quarterback position. They have three guys who they were between in Juniors Devvin Calhoun and Alex Guadagni, along with Senior Caleb Williams, who is also getting some looks. Calhoun was a starter last year but broke his hand and missed time.
Williams can also go out wide and is considered a three-star athlete, so he might be more valuable as a playmaker on the outside. At the same time, in the box, whoever is under center will have Devon Pettus to help out whoever is under center.
Canton opens the season at home on August 25 at 7 pm as they host Temperance Bedford.
