After a down year by their standards, the Allen Park Jaguars enter the 2023 season looking to reclaim their spot at the top of the league.
Returning for the Jaguars are five starters on offense and six on defense. While they return 11 starters, they also bring back players who got playing time last year, and one of those players who will see an uptick in playing time is Running Back Josh Rempert. As head coach Tom Danosky said, “He had some big runs for us last year,” he would say Rempert will be a key to the Jaguars’ offense. Another player that will be a guy to watch is Senior Glen Webster. Webster will see time in the backfield this year. He also saw some time back there last year but was hampered by some injuries. Watch for Bird Nasceif at Receiver, who Danosky said he expects to see big things from this year.
On the defensive side, Danosky said to watch for Senior Linebackers Reed Picotte and Alex Varga, along with Gavin Bolley and Cooper Brown, on the line to have big years.
As for returners, the Jaguars will see Senior Receiver/Cornerback Camden Johnson play a significant role; back with him are also Quarterbacks Braylon Orsette and Steven Doyle.
As last year, the Jaguars will have a competition at Quarterback, with Danosky saying, “We have three senior Quarterbacks, and I feel confident we can win with any of them,” the three players he was talking about were Braylon Orsette, Steven Doyle, and Madden Warga. Having the three Quarterbacks that he feels confident in is a luxury, according to Danosky.
Talking about who the starter is at Quarterback, Danosky said it’s Orsette’s job to lose. He would also say that Orsette gives the team a little more versatility at that position, while Doyle gives them more versatility at other positions, as he’s shown he can play some Tight End.
As for other battles on the field, Danosky said he wants his second team to be more like a 1B team where they can go in and the team does not miss a beat. He did say that Running Back will be by committee, and Receiver will be Nasceif, with Junior Weston Glei also getting some time. Glei was another player that Danosky was excited about with his skill set.
The Jaguars will open against Taylor at Wayne State on August 25 at 4 pm. They will return home two weeks later as they will play host to the Woodhaven Warriors on September 8 at 7 pm.
