After a 7-3 season, the Dearborn Pioneers return five on offense and eight on defense. The issue for the Pioneers, however, is they are looking for a new starting Quarterback.
It could be a tough year for the Pioneers as they are without their starting backfield from a year ago. With Noah Dobert and Adam Saleh at Northern Michigan University, they will have to rely on the likes of returning Seniors Hassan Sareini, Kyle Singleton, and Junior Corey Johnson to carry the load.
At Quarterback, they don’t have a firm starter yet, but Head Coach Alex Grignon said they have a guy who has taken the reigns. However, the issue for them is each of the guys fighting for the job all have different skill types, so Grignon said, “We have to make sure we have the right guy and the right offense for that guy,” he did go on to say that they could have multiple guys, but he would add we will let that figure itself out.
Most guys return for the offense along the line, where Grignon said he has about four returners on the offensive line. He did say that they will try to control the ball a bit more this season and slow down the game. With the eight returners on defense, Grignon thinks they should be “stout.”
They will definitely need that defense to come up big as they open the season on August 24 on the road against Detroit Catholic Central at 7 pm. The home opener will be September 8 as they host Livonia Franklin at 7 pm.
