Season Preview: Southgate Looks for Back-to-Back Winning Seasons for First Time in Over a Decade

After a resurgence under first-year head coach Bobby Marten, the Southgate Anderson Titans will look to build on last year’s playoff berth and make it back for the second year in a row.

Until last year the Titans had a seven-year stretch where they were below .500 and finished near the bottom of the Downriver League. That changed last year with Marten as the head man and with eight returners on Defense and seven on Offense.

The Offense is led by Running Back Chase Barbosa and Quarterback Jackson Sage. Now a Senior, Barbosa will again be a main focus for the Titans’ Offense. Last year Barbosa ran for 18 touchdowns and 953 yards while adding another 154 yards on 16 catches. He also played a big role on Defense, adding seven and a half sacks and 65 tackles. Sage, a Junior, took the reigns as the starting Quarterback last year as he threw for 1800 yards and 11 touchdowns. Other returning players to watch for the Titans this season are Receiver/Safety Andrew Porter, Linemen Logan Riddle and Drayden Long, and Linebackers Issac Norscia and Connor Ensign.

As for battles, the staff is keeping a close eye on are at left tackle and receiver on the offensive side of the ball, and for the Defense, there are battles along the Defensive line, at Linebacker and Cornerback.
The Titans open up on the road at Trenton on August 25 at 7 pm before their home opener on August 31 against Allen Park.
