Following a 6-4 season, the Woodhaven Warriors will welcome a new head coach as long-time coach Keith Christnagel takes over as the school’s Athletic Director. Taking over for Christnagel will be David Mifsud. Mifsud comes to Woodhaven after leading Monroe in 2022, being at Dearborn High for 16 years and at Parma Western for an additional eight years.
Mifsud will have six returning starters, with it being an even split with three starters returning for both sides of the ball. Leading the way for the returners are Senior Lineman/Linebacker Tyler Dodd and Running Back/Linebacker Andrew Phillips as two-way guys and Xavier Barnes at Defensive End.
As for some new guys to watch this year, the Warriors will be led by Receivers Senior Jayden Peppers and Junior Nick Harget. They will be joined by Slotbacks, Slot Receivers Maurice Tyler and Jace Davis, who are Juniors. Sophomore Running Back/Defensive Back Izzy Ibrahim will also see substantial playing time for the Warriors.
Getting the ball to all of the Warriors’ weapons will fall to Senior Quarterback Ben Kolodziejczyk. This will be Kolodziejczyk’s first year as the starter under center, but he did see some playing time last season. While Mifsud did say that Kolodziejczyk is in the lead for the starting spot, he did mention that there is competition at every position during camp.
The Warriors will kick off the season on August 25 as they travel to play the Wyandotte Bears, with kickoff set for 7 pm. They will return home on August 31 to host the Trenton Trojans, with kickoff set for 7 pm.
