Taylor North Little League Celebrates Championship

Since Sunday when the Little Leaguers of Taylor North won the Little League World Series, they have experienced a summer of excitement in less than a week.

Since the 5-2 win, that was capped off by a save from Gavin Ulin, the team was honored by the Detroit Tigers at their game Tuesday August 31 and had a parade to honor the team on Thursday September 2. During the celebration the team had local celebrities such as Spike from channel 95.5, and Michael Stone and John Jansen of 97.1 the Ticket. Stone and Jansen MC’d the event that was attended by United States Representative Debbie Dingell, and United States Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters. Also in attendance was Michigan Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist who presented a proclamation to the team that in his words said we’re better than the rest of the world.

This was Michigan’s first World Series victory since 1959. On top of being the first championship in 62 years it was also the first time that a team from Taylor North has made it to the Little League World Series.

Taylor would plow their way through the Great Lakes Regional by going 4-0 and outscoring their opponents 38-2. Once they got to Williamsport, they went 5-1 with the lone loss coming at the hands of Hawaii, who they would later beat to make it to the finals. Once in Williamsport the world fell in love with the team from Michigan, but they especially fell in love with the kid with the flow Gavin Ulin. Ulin played second most of the time but also pitched six innings for the team. Before moving on to sign autographs with the rest of his team Ulin who has also been the unofficial spokesperson for the team said that it really hadn’t sunken in yet that they are world champions, but with school starting back up next week Ulin did say “It’s probably going to be the same. People are going to treat me the same and everything so it’s not really going to be different.”

Congrats to your 2021 Little League World Series Champions Taylor North Little League. Well done this summer and we look forward to covering you down the line once you hit high school.
