Day two of our kickoff weekend sped into full gear on Friday, August 30, as we had two more games. The first game saw a matchup between the Belleville Tigers and the Clarkston Wolves. It was Clarkston who had the lead going into the half. The second half looked like it was going to be a rout, but the Wolves were able to battle and keep it close, even tying it up late in the game. However, it would be Belleville that would come away with the 35-28 victory.
Clarkston
No Backing Down
After a start of the game that wasn’t up to Clarkston’s standards, they were able to get back into the game and score in the second quarter off of a Griffin Boman seven-yard run, and that would give them a 7-6 lead that they would hold until halftime. Belleville came out of the half and punched Clarkston in the mouth and would go up 20-7 with 9:17 left in the third. It would have been easy for them to fall over, but they battled back and scored a touchdown again by Griffin Boman to make it 20-14. Belleville would go back up by two scores, and then it was all Clarkston. They would play stellar defense led by Brady Beck, and then they would score twice more. Lukas Boman would score on a one-yard run, and then Sophomore Quarterback Alex Waszczenko would fire an 86-yard dime to Hank Hornung for the touchdown, and then Beck would find Brody Roush for the two-point conversion to tie it at 28. Although they lost, Clarkston didn’t back down to the Senior laden team.
Belleville
Too Much Dirty Laundry
Belleville came out today and played a game with too many mistakes, which almost cost them. The Belleville Tigers were called for 10 penalties. Most of the penalties came in the first half, which could have led to their slow start. If they can clean it up, Belleville will be the team to beat the state of Michigan once again.
Overcome
This was Belleville’s first time out since they lost in the State Championship game to Southfield A&T, and they are dubbing this their “Revenge Tour.” While their season started with a win, they needed to overcome adversity as they were down at the half, and they let Clarkston battle back to tie it late in the game. It was punch after punch for Belleville, and they were able to handle each one to eventually come away with a big 35-28 victory over a really good team in Clarkston.
