Week 2 Takeaways: De La Salle Takes Flight vs Detroit Martin Luther King

In what was dubbed one of the best games this season, Detroit, Martin Luther King(MLK)  welcomed in De La Salle. Both teams were coming off wins a week ago, so something would have to give here. Detroit MLK would fall short in this one, as De La Salle would go on to win 35-13.

Detroit Martin Luther King

Get a Groove on O

Detroit MLK needs to find a way to keep their offense on the field. They had an issue with this early vs Cleveland Heights, but they were able to get their feet under them. They were able to do that with the play of Michael Dukes and Darryl Flemister. They started to do this near the end of the first half. However, Flemister got injured and would not return for the second half. They could get chunks but nothing massive at that point, and their groove ended. It could spell the end of their season, depending on how long Flemister is out.

De La Salle

Defense…Defense

The story has been their defensive unit through two games for De La Salle. They are led by veterans Dalton Drogosh, Jacob Tur, and Anthony Presnell. However, two of the biggest contributors on defense against Detroit Martin Luther King were Anthony Bitonti and Drew Bouhanna. Bitonti would make his mark in the second quarter as he would recover a fumble and take it 20 yards for the touchdown. Later in the game, it would be Bouhanna’s turn as he intercepted a pass and took it 103 yards back to the house to score the second defensive touchdown of the game.

Find Your Footing

De La Salle’s offense has been getting off to slow starts through two games. After close to a quarter, they were able to get it going. De La Salle needs to find a way to settle in quicker on offense, and they will be fine, but if they keep this slow start the next few weeks, it could spell trouble for a team that will only play eight games this year instead of the usual nine.
