In a game that many expected to be close, Northville came out on a mission and put a beating on Plymouth, as by the end of the first half, it was 42-0. However, the game ended 50-14.
Plymouth Wildcats
Lone Star?
The lone bright spot on offense for the Wildcats was the play of senior Running Back Jaxon McCaig. While the night started rough for McCaig as he fumbled on the game’s first play, he pushed across both Plymouth’s touchdowns. McCaig finished the night with 16
carries for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
Mission Impossible: Stopping an Offense
It will be a long season for the Plymouth Wildcats if the defense can’t stop the opposing offense. Plymouth allowed Northville to score on six straight drives to start the game. The seventh drive Northville had in the first half, yes, you read that correctly, was them taking a knee with 12 seconds left on the clock. The Wildcat defense started to get stops in the second half once Northville put in their second string. Although the Wildcats looked bigger upfront, they lacked the strength to push around the O-Line of Northville.
Northville Mustangs
Mustangs on the Run
It’s said that a Mustang can reach a speed of 55 MPH, and it looked like the Northville Mustangs were that fast versus Plymouth. The defense was flying around and causing problems for Plymouth all night. The defense forced two interceptions and a fumble. They also added a sack and multiple tackles for loss. The defense was led by Evan Deak, who had seven tackles and an interception. On offense, they scored at will with their starters and rushed for 187 yards, and four of their seven touchdowns came on the ground. The rushing attack was led by Colin Charles, who finished with 80 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Mustangs came at the Wildcats so fast they might have blinked.
King Charles
Athlete Colin Charles was that dude on the field for the Northville Mustangs versus the Plymouth Wildcats. Charles played a part in the passing game, the receiving game, and the rushing attack. In his one pass attempt, Charles completed it for a 40-yard gain. In the rushing game, he had three carries that totaled 80 yards and a touchdown, including a 40+ yard run. Then he also pulled in two receptions for eight yards, but one of the catches was for his second touchdown of the night. After the game, first-year Head Coach Brent Luplow said he didn’t get Charles as many touches as he would have liked in the week one win over Clarkston, so he said, “We came out with an emphasis on using him on the edge,” Luplow would also say that “He’s a special athlete.” If this was any indication of what Charles can do, the rest of the KLAA West needs to be ready for him.
Heart and Soul
An athlete who stood out for Northville was Junior Drew Rankin. Rankin led the team out of the tunnel, was a captain, and was the loudest person on the defensive unit. While he only finished with five tackles, he kept the energy up. You will notice the Junior Defensive Back by his personality on the field. He showed that he had heart.
